Development Manager - Cloud Engineering Team

The talented candidate will have a software engineering background and have experience leading, mentoring and managing people. They will be working within our Cloud Engineering Team and have line management responsibility for a team of skilled engineers, collaborating closely with QA, Head of Dev Ops, Product Management and the Director of Operations and Product Delivery. The Dev Manager will lead and coordinate projects that map to our range of Products, ensuring adherence to modern engineering practices to deliver high quality technology. Establishing and maintaining good practices and standards across our product ecosystems will be a key area of focus. 

 

This is a management role, reporting directly to the Head of Cloud Engineering. In addition, the role collaborates very closely with our Product Team and Operations and Delivery Lead. The role is based in the UK and requires UK RTW status. We offer flexible and remote working with occasional team meet ups.


 

Tech Stack: c#, Python, Git. Docker. Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, Microservice Architectures, Azure DevOps. 


 

Required Experience

  • Proven track record of involvement in complex technology projects
  • Leading and inspiring high performing technology teams, establishing a culture of collaboration
  • Aptitude for training, mentoring, leading technical teams, and effectively managing and communicating career progression and succession plan
  • Ability to manage remote teams, and distributed teams
  • Proven experience using a range of agile project management methods such as Scrum, Lean and SAFe
     

Responsibilities
 

A mix of product development, line management and delivery management: 
 

  • Recruitment, mentoring and professional development of staff including their assessment and performance management
  • High-level planning of key product features 
  • Ensuring the appropriate planning and management of the development resources
  • Facilitating the development of new products and tooling
  • Identify risks and provide mitigation plans
  • Escalate issues promptly to senior management
  • Code quality and AppSec
  • Accountable for enforcing the SSDLC (Secure Software Delivery Life Cycle) within the team
  • Review and refine release process to enhance release cadence and delivery of software builds
  • Assisting the support team with customer-related queries
  • Enforcing coding standards and good practice for Python within the organisation
  • Leading and inspiring high-performing technology teams, establishing a culture of collaboration
  • Champion and represent the development team
  • Responsible for the delivery of product features
  • Review and refine release process to enhance release cadence and delivery of software builds

Technical knowledge, skills, and experience 

  • Stakeholder management
  • Strong software engineering principles. 
  • Containerisation – Docker and Kubernetes
  • Cloud environments. Like AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Automation
  • Proven experience using a range of agile project management methods such as Scrum, Lean and SAFe
  • Desire for training, mentoring, leading technical teams, and effectively managing and communicating career progression and succession plans
  • Experience in gathering metrics and making data-driven decisions
